What are the core themes
of CAIMED
CAIMED focuses on a number of areas relevant to public administration
innovation, including:
- Governance systems and institutions
- Public service delivery
- Human resources development in the public sector
- Accountability and transparency in government operations
- Decentralization
- Technological adequacy and knowledge management
- Enabling environment for private sector development
Why is CAIMED unique
This Centre is unique in that it concentrates exclusively
on public administration innovation and governance in the
Euro-Mediterranean region and it is part of the United Nations
Global Online Network on Public Administration (UNPAN).
C.A.I.MED is the only national or international institution
with an information database on the structural characteristics
and needs for innovation of the countries of the Mediterranean
region.
What are some of the
activities of CAIMED
As highlighted in the above-mentioned Memorandum of Understanding,
CAIMED will operate in the following areas:
- Provide support to the implementation of the UNDESA
executed project for Innovation in Public Administration
in the Euro-Mediterranean Region
- Provide support to the FORMEZ project on best practices
in financial management at the local level funded by
the Italian Region of Campania.
- Provide support to the FORMEZ project on capacity-building
in the public sector for private sector development
in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Commerce;
- Promotion of capacity-building and training of officials
responsible on administrative simplification;
- Promotion of sharing of information of knowledge,
techniques and experiences with other countries, particularly
developing countries in the context of cooperation between
Europe and the Mediterranean region;
- Inventory of pilot experiences in developing countries.
- Preparation of training packages on innovations in
public administration;
- Mobilization of high-level expertise, to organize
international workshops, seminars and training activities;
and dissemination of the results of the work of the
Centre
Where to find CAIMED
An on-line Network has been created and will be shortly
made available online. This network will be a useful tool
for the dissemination of best practices in public administration
as well as for distance learning and life-long-learning.
The web-site also contains relevant documentation and country
profiles on public administration systems in the Euro-Mediterranean
region. CAIMED’s web-site is linked to the web-site
of the Programme for Innovation in Public Administration
devoted to the technical cooperation activities to be undertaken
in this same field. The web-site will be soon available
at: www.caimed.org CAIMED is located at Formez, Arco Felice,
Naples, Italy.
